Howell CPA, PA is owned and operated by Denise Howell. Denise is a CPA licensed in Louisiana and Mississippi and is a member of the AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants which operates as the national regulatory agency for CPAs), the LCPA (Louisiana Association of Certified Public Accountancy) and the MSCPA (Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants). She graduated Cum Laude from Auburn University with a Bachelor in Accountancy in 1998 and a Master of Accountancy in 1999.
Denise has practiced accounting and tax services in both public and industry. She has over eleven years experience in public accounting with firms in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Her industry experience while a CPA has come at FleetCor Technologies, Inc – Fuelman – for over five years.
While at Fuelman, Denise created the Tax Department designing and implementing procedures to meet the international company’s tax and regulatory requirements. Her duties included managing the tax department, reviewing tax returns prepared by tax staff, preparing all corporate income tax returns, ensuring that the corporation met all regulatory requirements, assisting computer programmers with tax requirements of the proprietary transaction processing system and then maintaining the tax module within such system, preparing notes to the corporate financial statements related to tax issues, assisting CFO with due diligence inquiries from prospective investors, corporate tax planning, working with regulatory agencies regarding audit inquiries with the corporation, and training and assisting corporate department heads with various regulatory requirements. Additionally, Denise assisted with corporate business advisory services including assisting with drafting of legal contracts to meet various objectives of the corporation.
Denise’s public accounting experience has been with both a regional firm and local firms preparing individual, corporate, partnership, not-for-profit, benefit plan, trust, and estate returns; monthly compilations; reviews; governmental audits; business planning; financial planning; licensing board submissions; and, training firm personnel with compliance issues.
Before returning to college to obtain her degrees in accountancy, Denise worked in various positions within the truck transportation industry including over-the-road driver/owner/operator and broker/dispatcher for over twelve years.
